Volaris to Launch New DFW to Mexico City Route in December

Volaris, the low-cost airline serving Mexico, plans to launch a three times a week direct flight in December between DFW International Airport and Mexico City.

The 2\u00bd-hour flight will occur on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and tickets went on sale Thursday, according to Volaris. Flights begin Dec. 11.

“With this new route, we strengthen our objective of getting more Mexicans to reach their destination quickly and safely, offering the best rates in the market,” said Volaris market development director Miguel Aguiñiga in a statement.

Its budget-conscious model is based on a “visiting family and friends” strategy as it looks to grow its share of cross-border travel.

Earlier this week, Volaris described its bounceback from the COVID-19 pandemic as “the fastest recovery among all carriers in North America.” The company said its September passenger traffic stood at 84% of capacity, compared with the same month last year. It carried 1.3 million passengers in September.

U.S. airlines are seeing a much slower recovery in attracting travelers back to the skies. Passenger traffic remains 65% to 70% below last year’s levels, according to the Transportation Security Administration.

Volaris serves 20 destinations in the U.S. and 44 in Mexico with 311 daily flight segments. It is Mexico’s largest domestic carrier, with substantial market share at airports in Cancún, Guadalajara, Mexico City, Monterrey and Tijuana.
