Let the Customers Decide

LATAM, Latin America’s leading airline group—with one of the largest route networks in the world—plans to renovate the cabins of two thirds of its fleet—some 200 aircraft—at a cost of $400 million.

The updated cabins will offer pax the opportunity to choose seats with more space, more room, and even beds, for extra money.

I can’t wait to see how this works out. Will enough pax be willing to pay for the extra room/comfort? I hope so.

Back during the three decades that I flew airlines all over, we could choose to pay more for first class. Today, that is not always an option. I was one of those who rode in back, but I did have the option.

LATAM seems to be planning more than two options, with improvements in entertainment, baggage bins, larger seats, and other options.

“As part of LATAM’s long-term vision, the transformation of our cabins will enable us to offer an industry-leading onboard experience with more options, flexibility and personalization to better serve each and every passenger,” said Claudia Sender, Vice President Clients, LATAM Airlines Group. “This means being able to serve leisure passengers who want to ‘travel lighter for less’ at the same time as customers traveling for business who want privacy to both rest and work, in addition to those who wish to be able to upgrade the services that they value the most.”

That makes sense to me. I can’t wait to see what the pax decide.
