FAA Seeks Public Input on Runway Project Proposal at Raleigh-Durham Airport

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority invite the public to discuss the draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for a proposed runway replacement project at Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU). 

The Airport Authority proposes relocating Runway 5L/23R and then converting the existing runway to a taxiway to meet existing and forecasted aviation demands. The draft EA will evaluate the potential environmental effects of the proposed project.

The in-person meeting will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. EST on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023, at the RDU Center, 1000 Trade Drive, Raleigh. Virtual options are not available for this meeting. The public comment period began on Jan. 25, 2023, and is open through March 13, 2023.

The FAA is conducting the draft EA in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act, which requires the FAA to identify and publicly disclose the potential environmental impacts of proposed airport projects.
