ACI Jet Names Nathen Steiger General Manager of John Wayne FBO

ACI Jet announced Nathen Steiger as general manager of its John Wayne Airport FBO location. An industry veteran and pilot, Steiger brings a diverse aviation background in both FBO management and flight operations to his new role.

Steiger’s selection as general manager is part of a general restructuring of ACI Jet’s FBO management team, which also sees Joe Daichendt promoted to senior vice president of FBOs.

Benjamin West Named Pocatello Regional Airport Manager

Benjamin West was named manager of the Pocatello Regional Airport on July 19.

He comes to Pocatello from Theodore Roosevelt Regional Airport in Dickinson, North Dakota where he was an operations specialist. Prior to his time in Dickinson, he was an airport planner for the North Dakota Aeronautics Commission.

Southwest Wyoming Regional Airport Opens New General Aviation Facility

Southwest Wyoming Regional Airport officials cut the ribbon July 18, on a new $5.8 million General Aviation facility powered in part by a solar project provided by Rocky Mountain Power’s Blue Sky customers.

The new state of the art facility will house the operations of the airport owned Fixed Base Operator (FBO), Sweetwater Aviation.

Meridian Opens New Hangar at Teterboro Airport

Meridian opened a new, state-of-the-art hangar at its New Jersey-based headquarters in Teterboro Airport. 

The new building replaces the original Hangar 12, which was demolished in the summer of 2016. This modern facility includes a 40,000 sq. ft. hangar and a two-story support building, effectively doubling the size of the previous facility.

Charlotte Douglas International Airport's Concourse A Expansion Opens to Passengers

Concourse A Expansion – Phase I at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) opened July 18, to the public. 

The nine-gate, 229,807-square foot addition is the first completed project under the Destination CLT initiative, a $2.5 billion capital investment program to renovate the concourses and expand CLT’s roadways, curb front, airfield and terminal.

Aimee Thibodeau Appointed Marketing and Business Development Manager for Bangor International Airport

Bangor International Airport (BGR) has appointed Aimee Thibodeau as its new marketing and business development manager.

Formerly marketing and development director with Old Town-Orono YMCA, Maine, Thibodeau previously held a number of posts in journalism, progressing from a reporter with the Bangor Daily News to managing editor of the newspaper’s weekly publication, special sections and Bangor Metro magazine.

Apache Junction Mayor Jeff Serdy was elected chairman of the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority (PMGAA) at the June Board of Director’s meeting.

Mead & Hunt Opens Office in Tampa

Mead & Hunt is opening its third Florida office in Tampa.

Todd Knuckey and Dave Schmidgall will be leading the Tampa aviation team. Pulling from both local and national resources, the Tampa team will provide aviation expertise in engineering, planning, architecture, environmental planning, air service development and program management.


Charlotte Douglas International Airport Welcomes FuelRod Mobile Charging Service

Tricopian Inc. announced that Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) is the 29th airport in the United States to offer its mobile device charging service.

With a growing network of kiosks that allow for the return and exchange of the charger, FuelRod enables flyers to stay mobile while they charge their phones.

Indy Airport’s Human-Powered Charging Stations Win North American Honor

The Airports Council International-North America selected the Indy airport’s human-powered charging stations as one of the Best Innovative Consumer Experiences or Practices among airports today. ACI recognized the charging stations because they demonstrate a unique approach “that provides an exceptional and memorable customer experience that engages the senses, mind and the emotions.”

Each station features four stationary bikes that are connected to a generator. Travelers cycle for fitness, while generating power to charge their devices. The charging rate is equal to charging by means of a wall plug.

Bob Siris Named Recipient of the 2018 ACC Agency Best Practices Awards

The Airport Consultants Council (ACC) announced the selection of Bob Siris, Project Manager in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) New England Region Airports Division, Safety and Standards Branch, for the 2018 ACC Agency Best Practices Award.

He was recognized for his exemplary work on the T.F. Green Airport Runway 16-34 Runway Safety Area (RSA) improvements, and most recently, the Runway 5 Extension at T.F. Green Airport.

Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport Breaks Ground on Major Capital Improvement Projects

Ground was broken June 13, on nearly $10.5 million worth of capital improvements coming to Springfield’s Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport.

Building improvements include a complete rehabilitation of the fixed base operator (FBO) facility’s main hangars and the relocation of the general aviation terminal building.

Roadway and parking lot improvements include combining Parking Lots A and B to create approximately 225 new parking spaces, while creating a dedicated two-lane, one-way drive through the main terminal complex.

Hudson Group Announces the World’s Largest Hudson Store at ATL

Hudson Group announced the opening of ATL Shops by Hudson, the world’s largest Hudson store at Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL).

The retail space, totaling over 5,000 square feet, will be dedicated to modern visuals, new products, and shop-in-shop experiences with proprietary brands Ink by Hudson and Sweet Indulgences.

Signature Flight Support Opens Sports Terminal at Miami International Airport

In an effort to help the city attract elite sporting events and better service Miami’s own professional teams, Signature Flight Support, a fixed based operator (FBO) at Miami International Airport (MIA), is proud to announce the grand opening of its brand new 3,500 sq. ft. Chad Leqve Named Vice President - Management and Operations at the Metropolitan Airports Commission

Chad Leqve, a 22-year veteran of the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC), has been named its new vice president – management and operations.

DFW's Armin José Cruz Named 2018 Parking Professional of the Year

The International Parking Institute (IPI) announced that Armin José Cruz, vice president of the Parking Business Unit at DFW International Airport in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, has been named its 2018 James M. Hunnicutt, CAPP, Parking Professional of the Year.

Cruz, a six-year U.S. Army veteran, holds the distinction of being the first Cuban-American to graduate from West Point U.S. Military Academy. He has served on multiple committees and boards for transportation organizations and nonprofits and is a three-time recipient of the Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Chairman's Award.

MidAmerica Airport Named 2018 Illinois Primary Airport of the Year

Fort McMurray International Airport Opens Patio in Courtyard

The Fort McMurray Airport Authority made improvements to the courtyard space at the Fort McMurray International Airport (YMM) to host events and passengers in a beautiful garden patio atmosphere.

Acapulco’s Airport Inaugurated Its Expanded Modern Terminal

Acapulco has inaugurated its newly expanded International Airport that will allow the iconic beach resort to welcome a growing numbers of visitors. Also known as General Juan N. Álvarez International Airport, with airport code ACA, Acapulco’s airport expansion has a capacity for handling 1.3 million passengers.

Among the most noticeable aspects of the new airport expansion is its vast size: it is now 19,000 square meters or 204,514 square feet in area, an increase of 7,000 square meters or 75,347 square feet over the old airport. The new terminal features an eco-conscious design that aims at reducing environmental safety, while the latest in airport technology enhances the experience and security of travelers to Acapulco.
