Fort McMurray International Airport Opens the Patio in the YMM Courtyard

May 30, 2018

The Fort McMurray Airport Authority has made improvements to the courtyard space at the Fort McMurray International Airport (YMM) to host events and passengers in a beautiful garden patio atmosphere. The courtyard is located on arrivals level one, beyond the doors next to the luggage carousels. The space is accessible to both passengers and the public.

“We have been looking for ways to enhance the passenger experience and continue to make the terminal building a valued asset for the Wood Buffalo Region even when not travelling” said RJ Steenstra, president & CEO of the Fort McMurray Airport Authority. “The courtyard has always been a tranquil space but it has been underutilized. We were able to identify cost effective minor upgrades to complement the space, improve passenger service and offer the community a great venue for dining and outdoor events.”

The YMM Courtyard now boasts the most beautiful and relaxing patio in Fort McMurray. Famoso Neapolitan Pizzeria will offer full service for lunch and dinner to the patio starting May 31, weather permitting, during designated hours. When Famoso is not operating the patio, guests are still welcome to enjoy the space and are able to bring food to the patio from any concession operating in the airport. Parking is free for three hours when customers make a purchase of $10 or more at any restaurant in the YMM Airport though the Dine & Dash program. Ask your server for your voucher.

Famoso’s patio operating hours are:

  • Monday through Wednesday 11:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Thursday through Sunday noon – 8 p.m.

To add to the enjoyment of the patio the Airport Authority incorporated a garden and stage for live performances. The Airport Authority’s Maintenance team built raised planters, reusing discarded pallets and creates, creating a unique, rustic editable garden environment for everyone to enjoy. In addition, the Airport Authority partnered with AlumaSafway to provide a stage for live performances for the patio season.

The Airport Authority has posted a “Call for Artist” to submit proposals for dates to perform on the AlumaSafway stage. More information can be found here: www.FlyYMM.com/patio-ymm-courtyard

The Airport Authority would like to thank the businesses who have supported these projects, AlumaSafway for their help with the stage, NC Transport & Equipment for supplying the soil for the gardens, Canadian Tire for their help sourcing patio furniture, vegetables, herbs, flowers and other plant selections, and Famoso Neapolitan Pizzeria for operating the patio. With their support YMM is proud to offer the community this space for events of all kinds.
