Illegal Pork and Bird Nests Seized by U.S. Customs at JFK Airport
U.S. Customs had a beef with a passenger who flew into JFK airport with illegal food from China, authorities said Thursday.
More than 20 pounds of pork and 30 containers of edible bird’s nests were seized from a passenger who arrived on a flight from the Communist country on Monday.
The traveler told Customs about the meat, but not the nests, authorities said. Both products are banned from being brought in on flights.
“This latest seizure highlights the vigilance and dedication to duty that our CBP Agriculture Specialists demonstrate daily to ensure that the United States is safe from unregulated food products entering our country that could potentially cause grave damage to our agricultural and economic vitality,” said Troy Miller, Director, Field Operations, New York Field Office.
