Aug. 14, 2019

Hong Kong (dpa) - Hong Kong police arrested five protesters during a rescue operation at the city’s airport, where protesters had detained an undercover officer, police said in a statement.

Chaos erupted at the airport late Tuesday when riot police attempted to force their way in to rescue the officer, who had been identified by protesters earlier in the evening, police said on Wednesday.

Police also rescued a reporter from the Global Times, a Chinese state news outlet, who had been tied up after his identity was discovered by protesters.

Those arrested were charged with offences including unlawful assembly, possession of offensive weapons, assaulting police and breaching the peace, police said.
