CA: Bird Strikes Continue to Plague Sacramento International Airport

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KCRA) —An American Airlines flight from Sacramento to Texas had to return to the airport Sunday morning after it hit a couple birds, but Sacramento International Airport is no stranger to the issue of bird strikes.

Ken Ealy is an avid bird watcher and president of the Yolo Audubon Society. He said thousands of birds migrate to the region this time of year, and keeping birds away from the airport is no easy task.

“They know the plane is there. They're keeping a distance that they feel is a safe distance, but if they get into that vortex, they can't help it because it's going to be stronger that their wings," Ealy said.
