The Federal Aviation Administration is awarding $481 million in grants for airport infrastructure and safety projects across the United States.

The funding includes 191 grants for airports in 36 states and two territories through the Airport Infrastructure Grants program. Projects range from terminal construction and reconstruction to runway, taxiway and apron improvements.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport will receive the largest award, with $100 million going toward runway, taxiway and terminal reconstruction and runway safety area improvements.

Other major awards include $32.5 million for terminal reconstruction at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport and $30.3 million for terminal construction at San Diego International Airport.

Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport will receive $14.2 million for taxiway construction and rehabilitation, while El Paso International Airport will receive $8.7 million for apron rehabilitation. Another $2.5 million will support projects at general aviation airports in Wisconsin, including terminal reconstruction, runway and taxiway rehabilitation and reconstruction of a snow removal equipment building.

“We’re investing in airport infrastructure that keeps travelers safe and airports operating efficiently,” FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford said. “These grants will help airports across the country meet the demands of today’s travelers while preparing for the future.”

Airport Infrastructure Grant funding can be used for airport planning and development, terminal improvements, baggage system upgrades, runway and taxiway rehabilitation, roadway and access projects and other safety-related infrastructure.

The program was established under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which provided $14.5 billion in Airport Infrastructure Grant funding over five years beginning in fiscal year 2022. The FAA has released the fifth and final installment of $2.89 billion in fiscal year 2026 funding for U.S. airports.
