American Airlines Passengers Had to De-Plane Right After Boarding a Severely Delayed Flight

July 12, 2022

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the airline industry has been a “mess” for a lack of a better term.

Due to the travel bans and economic woes caused by the pandemic, there have been cuts to staff and budgets, limited availability of staff, high fuel prices, delayed flights, and not to mention, many fights on flights.

Hence, you might not make it to your final destination.

Recently, passengers on an American Airlines flight had to get off after already experiencing a five-hour delay, since the pilots had to go off-duty, according to Insider.

Sheila Gray, a passenger on the flight, reportedly was returning from Rome and was trying to get home to Boston. Though, she was stuck in Charlotte, due to a layover.

“All I wanted was to get home to my bed,” Gray told Insider. I had been up for 24 hours at this point and the deplaning was just the straw that broke the camel’s back.”

The gate agent told Gray that her flight was delayed multiple times because “the plane was in a hanger being repaired.”

Gray and the other passengers boarded and were on the flight for 20 minutes when...”The crew has timed out and couldn’t fly. We all deplaned and started scrambling to see if we could find other flights.”

“People were angry and yelling at the gate agents,” Gray added. “One irate gentleman in the gate area was later escorted off the plane after we reboarded. I did not hear him causing a commotion on the plane but had seen him after we were taken off the plane.”

New pilots were assigned to the flight. American Airlines did not respond to the news outlet’s request for comment. Read more via Insider.
