Private Jet Runs Off runway at Essex County Airport with 2 Aboard, Officials Say
A business jet based out of Pennsylvania ran off the runway at Essex County Airport with two people aboard Sunday afternoon, authorities said.
A Cessna Citation business went off the end of the runway after landing at Essex County Airport in Caldwell, around 2:45 p.m., said a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration. The FAA is investigating the cause of the incident.
The two people on the jet got out of the aircraft themselves and were uninjured, officials said. The eight-seat commuter jet aircraft is owned by GP Aviation Inc. of Bethlehem Pennsylvania, according to FAA records.
Fairfield and West Caldwell police and fire, responded along with Essex County Sheriff’s officers and Nutley hazmat.
This is the second mishap involving a private plane in the state this month. On April 4, a small plane crashed into the front yard of a house on South Main Street in Manville, not far from its destination, Central Jersey Regional Airport.
