Aug. 9, 2019

Aug. 8--The pilot of a Piper PA-34 aircraft and two passengers traveling to Miami Executive Airport survived a crash Thursday in the Atlantic Ocean, 20 miles east of Bimini in the Bahamas, authorities said.

The aircraft departed Great Harbour Cay Airport in the Bahamas and was flying toward the airport in Miami-Dade County, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

After the crash, fishermen found the fixed wing, multi-engine plane in the water and rescued the three people who were aboard, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

Delvin Major, chief investigator for the Bahamas Air Accident Investigation Department, said all three people were rescued and safe and taken to Cat Cay in Bimini islands chain. The department will look into the accident, the FAA said.
