Pipistrel Receives Milestone Type Certificate from Colombian Civil Aviation Authority
Pipistrel has officially received type certification from Colombian Civil Aviation Authority Aerocivil for three aircraft currently in production.
This makes Pipistrel the first organization to earn Colombian Aeronautical Regulation-Very Light Aircraft (RAC-VLA) type-certification from Aerocivil.
The newly certified Pipistrel aircraft include:
- Explorer
- Velis Club
- X-Eye
This showcases how reliable Pipistrel traditional combustion engine aircraft are and makes it possible for Colombian owners and operators to acquire them.
President and Managing Director of Pipistrel Gabriel Massey said, "Pipistrel’s successful type certification by Aerocivil marks a crucial step in demonstrating our commitment to meeting international aviation standards.”
Massey continued, “This achievement not only opens up new opportunities in Colombia but also serves as a blueprint for our entry into other markets with similar regulatory frameworks.”
The Pipistrel Explorer requires minimal power without sacrificing performance, allowing it to perform remote operations in different altitudes and temperatures. The Explorer features:
- Capabilities for international spins
- Ability to perform day and night visual flight rules (VFR) operation
- Instrument flight rule (IFR) ready avionics package
The Explorer (Virus SW 121A) achieved European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) type certification in 2021.
The Velis Club is designed for flight training and additional applications, based on the Virus SW 121 model.
The X-Eye is designed for aerial surveying and is a variant of the 121A Explorer. It has various payload options and advanced special mission capabilities, including remote sensing applications like:
- Pipeline inspections
- 3D modeling
- Environmental analysis
Pipistrel is a Textron Inc. company.
