ExecuJet MRO Services South Africa, has announced the successful installation of Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) installations on a variety of business jet types.

The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) recently published a directive requiring all aircraft flying in South African airspace to be ADS-B Out compliant. This mandates that these aircraft be fitted with the appropriate ADS-B/Mode S 1090 MHz Extended Squitter transponders.

This avionics upgrade aims to:

  • Enhance real-time tracking
  • Strengthen safety in operations
  • Improve efficiency of airspace management

At Johannesburg’s Lanseria International Airport, ExecuJet MRO’s avionics team modified ADS-B on several aircraft, including types like:

  • Bombardier
  • Beechcraft
  • Embraer
  • Hawker
  • Learjet

The team also worked on two Learjet 45s and a Hawker 800XP, and they have similar upgrades planned before the end of 2025.

“Our team is very experienced doing such installations,” says Vince Goncalves, Regional VP Africa, ExecuJet MRO Services.

Gonclaves added, “As an authorised dealer for major global avionic equipment manufacturers (OEMs), we are capable of supporting business jet owners and operators with complex avionic upgrades that meet the latest international standards.”

Depending on the configuration, ADS-B upgrades typically involve:

  • Installing or upgrading a DO-260B compliant transponder
  • Enhancing the GPS system for Wide Area Augmentation (WAAS) capability

In accordance with approved supplemental type certificates and/or OEM service bulletins, ExecuJet MRO Services South Africa’s Lanseria facility is allowed to perform ADS-B upgrades on a wide variety of business aircraft.
