Buenos Aires — Nine people have been killed in a plane crash in the Dominican Republic, the airline said Wednesday.

Seven passengers and two crew were killed when the Gulfstream jet crashed after take-off near Santo Domingo's international airport, Helidosa Aviation Group said in a statement.

The jet was on its way from La Isabela Airport in El Higuero to Miami, Florida when it apparently ran into problems and the pilot sought to make an emergency landing at Santo Domingo's Las Americas international airport.

The aeroplane crashed and went up in flames. The cause of the accident was initially unclear.

Music producer Jose Angel Hernandez, also known as Flow La Movie, was among the crash victims, according to Helidosa Aviation Group.

He had been successful with reggaeton stars Bad Bunny and Ozuna, among others.
