Aarshabh Misra is a professional engineer who leads the analyst sub-discipline within aviation planning in Arup’s global center of excellence in Toronto. He has 13 years of diverse global consulting experience advising municipalities, developers, airport authorities and airlines on strategy, planning, operations and design for a range of transportation infrastructure.

“As an airport planner and analyst, I get to envision and plan for the future while optimizing current operations – to me that is very exciting and a big responsibility,” said Misra. “I have worked with numerous airports, airlines and government agencies, and I absolutely love the opportunity to learn something new from them every day. Aviation is also such a fast-paced industry – things change so quickly. I quite enjoy the dynamic nature of my profession as there is never a dull moment in aviation.”

Growing up as a kid in India, Misra’s father used to take him plane spotting at the Santacruz Airport, as it was called back then, in Mumbai. He still remembers being in complete awe watching those airplanes take-off and land. Misra now has two degrees in engineering, one of which is specializing in transport planning.

“Through that [transport planning] program, I developed an interest in traffic simulation modeling and particularly, the movement of vehicles and pedestrians in the built environment,” he said. “This background provided me with a solid foundation to start exploring airport terminals from a process point of view for passengers, bags, aircraft and vehicles, and rekindled my childhood interest in aviation. Since then, I have been fortunate enough to get several opportunities to work on local and international airport planning and development projects through my career at Arup.”
