Kestrel Wheel Deflator Kit Reduces Noise Levels

Jan. 24, 2018

Kestrel Engineering Ltd is pleased to offer a universal aircraft wheel deflator kit, which drastically reduces noise levels by more than 20 dBA when deflating aircraft wheels to a pre-set pressure, for example, prior to storage or shipment.

The Auto-Deflat-Aer contains a Relief Valve, Pressure Gauge and two threaded adapters, which safely grip the outer threads of the aircraft wheel valve stem. One adapter (Model 1) is suitable for Large Bore Schrader wheel valves and the second (Model 2) is suitable for Standard Bore Schrader wheel valves. It also contains an integral sintered bronze Silencer to drastically reduce the noise level during the deflation process.

A Boeing 747 wheel inflated to 200 psi, which is deflated by removing the valve core, can result in a noise level of almost 120 dBA, which is significantly above the worldwide industrial safety standard of 90 dBA. If the Auto-Deflat-Aer is used the integral silencer results in the maximum noise level experienced being less than 90 dBA.

The Relief Valve can be set within a range of 5 to 100 PSIG and can be locked at that setting. This enables the automatic/un-attended reduction of the pressure in the tyre to the preset value, at a significantly reduced noise level. The Auto-Deflat-Aer is suitable for use for tyre pressures up to 290 PSIG.

The Model 1 Adapter is compatible with the Large Bore valves used on aircraft such as the Boeing B747, B767, B777, B787 Dreamliner, MD11, Airbus A300, A330, A340 and A350. A special Model 1A adapter is available for Airbus A380 wheels.

The Model 2 Adapter is compatible with the Standard Bore valves used on aircraft such as the Boeing B737 Classic, B737 NG, B737 MAX, B757, and Airbus A320 Series, Embraer and Bombardier regional jets and turboprop aircraft.
