Lévis (Québec), Miami, February 29 2016 - Creaform today announced the signing of a global distribution agreement with Barfield, a recognized worldwide market leader in Ground Support Test Equipment that will be distributing the HandySCAN 3D laser scanner system.
Barfield's parent company AFI KLM E&M teaming with Creaform pioneered developing a cost- and time-savings solution for inspecting and measuring hail impact damage to airframes using the Creaform HandySCAN 3D laser scanner. With the use of automated inspection MACROs, inspection time can be cut from 4-5 hours per square meter to just 15 minutes per square meter, shortening inspection time by 80% or better. The solution is an application called Surface Inspector for assessing hail damage, Barely Visible Damage (BVD), bird strikes, ground damage, corrosion, or many other types of mechanical damage to wings, fuselage, and engines. The solution is much faster and delivers higher-quality results than today's manual inspection techniques, ultimately reducing delays and cancellations and improving aircraft availability.
"Teaming with Barfield, with its 70 years of aviation Ground Support Test Equipment marketing reach and significant customers' base worldwide, complements our strategy of distribution" said Stephane Galibois, Vice-President of Sales, Americas.
3D scanning technology can be used in multiple ways for damage assessment for other applications, Quality Control/inspections, design and engineering of aircraft and component repairs, prototyping and design of tooling, and reverse engineering. The portable HandySCAN 3D laser scanner is connected to a laptop computer where the surface to analyze is displayed in real time and in 3D, generating a large quantity of accurate, reliable data in record time for assessment.
"We are proud of the trust that Creaform has placed in Barfield while we are, with AFI KLM E&M continuing to explore ways of deploying 3D technology for other uses to optimize TAT and minimize maintenance costs for our customers" said Johann Panier, Chief Executive Officer of Barfield, Inc.
"We are very pleased to offer Creaform's world leading portable handheld 3D laser scanners! We are looking forward to our successful collaboration with Creaform which will strengthen Barfield's expertise in Ground Support Test Equipment," said Lew Wingate, Vice President of Distribution and GSTE for Barfield. Barfield's distribution of Creaform's products will focus initially on the Americas.
