Las Vegas, NV, Oct. 10, 2017 – The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) today honored Aviation International News senior editor Bill Carey with the NBAA Gold Wing Award, recognizing accurate and insightful reporting about business aviation. Carey received the award during the association’s Media Kick-Off Breakfast, held immediately prior to the opening of the 2017 NBAA Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE), which runs through Oct. 12 in Las Vegas, NV.
A veteran journalist with three decades of experience covering numerous facets of the aviation industry, Carey was recognized for his July 2016 story, "The Commercial Applications and Considerations of Flying Small Drones," which addressed efforts within the business aviation community to deploy small unmanned aircraft systems (s-UAS) in a variety of roles, and efforts by NBAA to assist established flight departments for manned aircraft in developing successful UAS operations.
"The article describes the many ways companies are incorporating drones into their work – from household names like Disney to small startup businesses – [and] highlights the spirit of innovation driving business aviation," said NBAA Chairman Paul Anderson in presenting the award to Carey.
Based in Washington, DC, Carey covers the airline, defense and unmanned aircraft systems industries for Aviation International News, and has experience as a business, technology and aviation reporter and editor with several daily newspapers, newsletters, magazines and websites. He received the British Royal Aeronautical Society “Aerospace Journalist of the Year” award in the business aircraft category in 1997.
The annual NBAA Gold Wing Award recognizes journalism's important role in reporting the significant contributions of business aviation - the use of a GA aircraft for business purposes - to the national economy, as well as the many ways in which the industry supports citizens, companies and communities across the U.S.
