The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) conducted a three day periodic Airport Certification/Safety Inspection last month and found Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport in full and complete compliance with applicable FAA Regulations.

Airport Certification/Safety Inspectors of the FAA, Great Lakes Airports Division, conducted the required Federal Aviation Regulation Part 139 Certification/Safety Inspection for Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport.  During this inspection the following documents were audited:  Airport Certification Manual, personnel training records, initial and recurrent Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting training records, Fuel Facilities Inspection reports, Fueling Agents Training Certification, records of the most recent Airport Emergency Plan review and the Full-Scale Disaster Exercise, airfield daily self-inspection records, airfield ground vehicle operators training program and drivers’ training records, Wildlife Management Plan, updated information for the Airport Master Record and the NOTAM records.  In addition to the aforementioned records, inspection of the Fuel Farm, airfield condition, airfield lighting and signs were conducted with airport staff.

“A well deserved congratulations is due to the dedicated team of airport employees and the Board of Commissioners for this significant accomplishment.  We also acknowledge the positive professional partnerships the airport maintains with the local Transportation Security Administration team, Springfield’s Air Traffic Control Tower personnel, Illinois Division of Aeronautics, and USDA Wildlife Services and their ongoing support, which is necessary to operate and maintain a safe and efficient airport”, said Mark Hanna, Executive Director of the Springfield Airport Authority.  Hanna also noted the FAA officials complimented the airport’s training programs and record-keeping, along with the professional quality and quantity of employee training programs.

The FAA conducts such periodic inspections at all commercial airports within the national aviation system. Certification of each airport is contingent upon the results of the inspection, the airport’s compliance with FAA regulations and the airport’s commitment to specifically customized operating manuals and procedures.
