Midcoast Technician Takes Top Prize at PAMO TechnAthlete Competition

Individual competitors demonstrate top-notch skills in the PAMA Aviation Maintenance Olympics TechnAthlete competition

Tim Kennon, a maintenance technician with Midcoast Aviation was awarded TechnAthlete of the Year honors in the PAMA Aviation Maintenance Olympics (PAMO) individual competition. TechnAthletes competed at PAMA's 34th Annual Symposium, held during Aviation Industry Week at the Sands Expo & Convention Center in Las Vegas.

Second place was awarded to Michael Zina of Bombardier Aerospace and third place was won by Tom McGinnis of Federal Mogul Corp.

In the fourth PAMO competition, the maintenance industry's top technicians competed for the highest cumulative score in three events: Safety Wire, Aircraft Technical Publisher's Data Research and FlightSafety International's Troubleshooting.

Kennon also had the highest individual score in the Troubleshooting event and was named FlightSafety International Troubleshooter of the Year. Terry Michmerhuizen of Duncan Aviation earned the highest individual score in the Data Research event and was named ATP Data Researcher of the Year.

Awards and prizes, provided by PAMO sponsor Snap-on, were presented at a ceremony at the Olympic Hangar at Aviation Industry Week on March 10.

"These individuals represent the high level of skill and dedication that it takes to be a successful maintenance professional. Their commitment to quality, efficiency, and safety was evident in their performances in this competition," said Tom Yanus, PAMO chair and program manager, Charles Taylor Department of Aviation Maintenance Science, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach.

Snap-on Tools is the primary sponsor of PAMO. Underwriters for 2005 were Bombardier Aerospace, Dassault Falcon Jet, FlightSafety International, and Midcoast Aviation. Underwriters were Aircraft Technical Publishers, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Rockwell Collins, and Standard Aero.

Rules and details about team and individual Olympic events are available on the PAMA web site at www.pama.org. The next Maintenance Olympics will be held during PAMA's 2006 Symposium, March 28-30 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
