Lion Air, Delta to Build Aircraft Maintenance Plant in Indonesia

Indonesia's largest private airline Lion Air said it had reached an agreement with U.S. Delta Airlines to build an aircraft maintenance facility in Indonesia.

JAKARTA, Oct 8 Asia Pulse - Indonesia's largest private airline Lion Air said it had reached an agreement with U.S. Delta Airlines to build an aircraft maintenance facility in Indonesia.

Lion Air President Rusdi Kirana said his company and Delta plan to invest US$1 billion in the project.

Hopefully a contract will be signed next year, Kirana said last weekend.

He said his company chose to partner Delta, as the U.S. company has much experience in the aviation industry and aircraft maintenance.

He said he would not rule out expanding the cooperation to include sharing flight routes.

The cooperation will be necessary as Lion Air plans to buy 100 Boeing 737-900ER aircraft from its maker, Boeing, he said.
