The U.S. Department of Justice has approved Delta Air Lines Inc.’s plans to merge with Northwest Airlines Corp.

The decision, handed down Wednesday, leaves little to be resolved before Atlanta-based Delta can officially acquire Northwest. Following the merger, the combined airline will be based in Atlanta and retain the Delta name.
