PARIS -- The French Ministry of Defense has renewed with Thales for a further five years a fixed-price contract for logistical support of avionics equipment on some 1,500 French military aircraft, the defense systems company said in a Jan. 12 statement.

The contract for logistics support for avionics maintenance was renewed through the SIMMAD, the Ministry of Defense's integrated agency in charge of through-life support of aeronautical equipment, Thales said. A company spokeswoman declined to give financial details.

"Productivity gains have significantly reduced support costs for the customer," said Pierre-Eric Pommellet, Thales vice president for services and business transformation.
