A man who lied to Qantas management about his engineering qualifications so he could do aircraft maintenance checks also duped his co-workers, taking money from their social club.

Timothy Leslie McCormack, 28, was yesterday jailed for four months over the fraud, with Magistrate Paul Lyon describing his actions as "despicable."

McCormack pleaded guilty to nine counts of obtaining money by deception after siphoning off funds from the Qantas Social Club savings account.
