EADS North America Donates $82,000 to Stanford University for Aerodynamic and Thermal Analysis Research
ARLINGTON, VA -- EADS North America will contribute $82,000 to Stanford University's Department of Mechanical Engineering to help fund a collaborative research project on aerodynamics and thermal analysis of aircraft systems.
Beginning in January 2009, faculty and students at Stanford will work with EADS engineers to conduct modeling and design research on aerodynamics and thermal and structural analysis of aircraft systems in the areas of composite materials, passenger comfort, and electronic device placement. Research advances in sections of this field could greatly improve the composition and structure of aircraft systems, including the A350, the EC-145, and the future Airbus A30X program.
"We are pleased to make a contribution to Stanford University to fund this project. This is an important and dynamic field of study and our support will undoubtedly enhance the research in this field, leading to more advanced technologies in aircraft systems," says Ralph D. Crosby Jr., EADS North America's chairman and CEO. "This contribution reflects EADS North America's support to the pursuit of basic research and technology, and its commitment to supporting institutions of higher education in the United States."
This donation marks another in a series of educational grants and scholarship contributions from EADS North America, totaling more than $400,000 over the past four years. This year, EADS North America also provided support to the University of California at Berkeley. In previous years, EADS North America has supported research grants to the Georgia Institute of Technology and Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and established university scholarships in the states of Florida, Mississippi, and South Carolina.
