JAL to Merge Four Aircraft Maintenance Units

New company will have 6,000 employees.

Japan Airlines Corp (JAL) is in talks on securing up to US$2.1 billion in low-interest government loans and may also tap a new government program that gives businesses capital infusions, Reuters reported.

The Development Bank of Japan is making the long-term loans available to try to mitigate the effects of the global financial crisis.

Furthermore, JAL has announced it will merge four aircraft maintenance units on Oct. 1. The merged company will take over the parent's maintenance division.
