Plane Broke Up in Midair

Wings and tail of aircraft broke off in flight but maintenance records show nothing unusual.

LAYTON, UTAH -- A federal investigator said Thursday that the wings and tail of a Centerville pilot's aircraft broke off in flight but that maintenance records of the plane showed nothing unusual.

National Transportation Safety Board air safety investigator Tom Little said his agency and the Federal Aviation Administration reviewed the PA-24 Comanche's maintenance history Thursday.

"We looked over the records today and we don't see any anomalies with maintenance," Little said.
