RIVERSIDE, CA – Flabob Airport and the Wathen Foundation will play host to the 33rd annual gathering of Meyers Aircraft from June 10–14. Founded in 1976, the Meyers Aircraft Owners Association is dedicated to the three production aircraft manufactured by Allen H. Meyers. These include the Meyers OTW ("Out To Win"), a two-seat, open cockpit biplane; and the Meyers 145 and 200 which are both low-wing, all-aluminum, retractable gear aircraft.
The OTW model was manufactured from 1936-1942 and was used as a primary trainer during the war. It won fame as "the only airplane that never killed a cadet." Of the 102 that were assembled, 55 Meyers remain on the FAA registry and one is flying in Canada.
The two-place 145, produced from 1950-1955, cruised at 145 mph on 145 hp. Its successor, the four-place 200, came off the line between 1959 and 1967. Of the 22 copies of the 145 that were built, 15 are still active.
This year's fly-in, which is open to the public free of charge, will feature visits to the March Field Museum and the Planes of Fame. There will also be a fly out to Santa Paula. Maintenance meetings are planned for owners and a banquet is scheduled for Saturday night.
