RIVERSIDE, CA – Flabob Airport will host Air Academies for grades six through 11 this summer at its facilities. The programs run Tuesdays through Fridays, with Saturdays being reserved for Flight Days. The Middle School program, catering to grades six through eight, runs July 7–11 and Oct. 6–10. High School students can attend July 14–17, with a Flight Day on Aug. 8, and Aug. 11–14 with a Flight Day on Sept. 12.
Designed to be a hands-on program, the students will learn about weather from a former member of the Apollo Project, they will learn history from a former member of the Berlin Airlift, and they will have classes on reciprocating engines, jets, and rockets. Each student will build and launch a real rocket. The section on theory of flight will include building part of a wing. No previous experience is necessary, but a serious interest in aviation is essential.
