Trimas' Monogram Aerospace Fasteners Produces Titanium Screws for Large Commercial Aircraft
June 8, 2009
BLOOMFIELD HILLS, MI -- TriMas Corporation announces that its Monogram Aerospace Fasteners business unit has developed the capability to produce seven types of titanium screws used by large, commercial airframe manufacturers.
Airframe manufacturers are increasingly turning to titanium aerospace parts because of the metal's light weight and its galvanic compatibility with carbon fiber reinforced composite structures. Composite-based aircraft structures are used on the newest civil aircraft programs, such as the Boeing 787, Airbus A350, and Bombardier's new C-Series airliners. Titanium parts also have widespread applications in military programs like Lockheed's new F-35 Lightning II fighter jet.
