KINGSTON, Jamaica --

A man accused of hijacking a Canadian jetliner on an airport tarmac in Jamaica has been found guilty.

Public prosecution director Paula Llewellyn says 21-year-old Stephen Fray was found guilty Thursday of charges including robbery and assault at the end of a trial that began Sept. 14. He will be sentenced Oct. 8.

Fray allegedly pushed his way into a CanJet Airlines plane April 19 while it sat at Montego Bay's airport with 167 passengers aboard. He was accused of firing a gun into the air, taking money from passengers and demanding to be flown off the island. Police captured him after a six-hour standoff.

The motive remains unclear. Authorities have described Fray as "mentally challenged."
