Florida Air Museum Receives Florida Humanities Council Grant

The grant will fund a February 2010 Aviation Adventures lecture by Florida documentary filmmaker Jon Anderson and his documentary, “Silver Wings & Civil Rights: The Fight to Fly” which focuses on the background and struggles of the Tuskegee Airmen.

SUN ‘N FUN CAMPUS, LAKELAND, FL, Sept. 25, 2009 — The Florida Air Museum has received a grant to fund a February 2010 Aviation Adventures lecture by Florida documentary filmmaker Jon Anderson in observance of Black History Month. The subject of the lecture will be Mr. Anderson’s award-winning documentary, “Silver Wings & Civil Rights: The Fight to Fly” which focuses on the background and struggles of the Tuskegee Airmen. The $1,000 grant was awarded by the Florida Humanities Council (FHC) the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. FHC is an independent, nonprofit organization that funds public programs throughout the state of Florida. The Florida Air Museum was among numerous community organizations throughout the state to receive grant funding for humanities programs.

The lecture is scheduled for February 19, 2010, 7:00 p.m., in the Florida Air Museum, 4175 Medulla Road, Lakeland, Florida 33811 and will be offered free to the public.
