Lufthansa Technik has opened a new centre for aircraft maintenance and component services at the Italian airport Malpensa. The services of Lufthansa Technik Milan (LTMIL) include component and planed maintenance services up to A-checks, aircraft-on-ground support and troubleshooting. Initially, aircraft from the Airbus A320 and A330/A340 families as well as Boeing 737 will be maintained. In case of an adequate market demand LTMIL will also extend its services to other aircraft types.

The basis of LTMIL forms Lufthansa Technik Component Services Milan (LTCSM). Since spring 2008 the company is operational and responsible for the regional material support in Milan. It works according to EASA 145-standard. By extending the aircraft maintenance, Lufthansa Technik is now able to offer a significantly wider range of technical services at Malpensa. This is also reflected in the change of the name to "Lufthansa Technik Milan."
In the medium-term LTMIL plans to raise its number of employees from currently 30 to 160. Lufthansa Technik offers a broad portfolio of technical services reaching from single maintenance events to full support programs. Lufthansa Technik will invest about eight million euro over the next five years in Milan. For the maintenance services LTMI has rented a 6400 square meter-hangar which offers space for up to four narrowbody or one widebody plus two narrowbody aircraft.
