A Zebra is Flying Over the Ocean
London, UK, July 12, 2010: The Sikorsky S38, known as "The Flying Zebra" or "The Flying Yacht" is 82 years old and still going strong. Many millions of moviegoers have seen "the old lady" in action in the 2004 film "Aviator" where Leonardo DiCaprio flew her over Los Angeles and then landed her by the seashore. This amphibious aircraft has explored and surveyed many of the world's continents and oceans.
Now the "Flying Yacht" will once again embark on a long journey across the Atlantic. On August 21, 2010, the "Flying Zebra" will take off from Minneapolis, USA and fly over Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Scotland, England, all the way to Frankfurt, Berlin and Hamburg raising money for the charity Wings of Hope.
The event is being co-ordinated in the UK by Aviation Without Borders (AWB) in close co-operation with its sister organisation in Germany, LOG (Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen - Wings of Help).
Aeropodium is honoured to be associated with the World Children's Flight 2010 and it would like to invite the aviation industry to sponsor this historic flight by donating to cover each mile of the 5,000 mile journey or a particular segment. Sponsors will receive a commemorative certificate. For more information, please contact Aeropodium.
