Feb. 17 -- Seeking to fill almost 500 jobs this year -- most in aircraft maintenance -- representatives for Robins Air Force Base will be on hand Thursday at a career expo for military and prior service members.

More than 40 organizations and agencies will be at the event, which will be held at 10 a.m. in the Museum of Aviation's Century of Flight Hangar in Warner Robins, to speak with and to assist job seekers.

The expo will showcase job opportunities in aviation, customer service, law enforcement, logistical management, maintenance, management, medical, engineering and sales.

Robins Air Force Base will have a table at the expo to explain the hiring process and what jobs are open, said Karl Abernathy, recruitment plans and strategy manager for Robins.

"We will talk about the opportunities we have on the base," Abernathy said. "We are hiring every day, but specifically we are looking for what we call the heavy hitter hiring series for the 402nd Maintenance Wing."

Abernathy said there are about 500 jobs to be filled within that wing this year, which works on aircraft like the F-15, C-5, C-17 and C-130.

There are also several "white-collared positions that involve management and other skills," Abernathy said, "but the bulk of our jobs are positions within the 402nd."

Specific positions Robins needs to fill are multi-skilled mechanics, sheet metal mechanics, avionics repair and aircraft electrical system workers.

"We really do encourage people to apply if their skills are right," Abernathy said. "We have jobs open all the time."

The event is sponsored by civilianjobs.com.
