bmi Enhances Commitment with Lufthansa Technik
British airline group bmi is to further expand its cooperation with Lufthansa Technik with the signing of two new agreements. The first sees bmi and Lufthansa Technik extend the base maintenance agreement for 41 aircraft the second is a new partnership for line maintenance support at London Heathrow airport.
Lufthansa Technik will continue to supply base maintenance services for the 41 aircraft of the complete bmi and bmibaby fleets which consist presently of 25 Airbus A320 family aircraft, two Airbus A330 and 14 Boeing 737 aircraft. More than 200 C-Checks, which will vary in scope and can be individually configured through a fixed price building block concept, will be performed during the next seven years. In addition, the parties have agreed on a "dedicated single line" concept, where the aircraft will be overhauled nose-to-tail in primary facilities within the Lufthansa Technik Group. The A320 fleet will be overhauled at Shannon Aerospace (SAL), the 737 aircraft at Lufthansa Technik Sofia (LTSF) and the A330 aircraft at Lufthansa Technik Malta (LTM) thus taking full advantage of efficiency gains.
The Line Maintenance contract opens a new chapter in the cooperation between the companies. The engineering organisation of bmi, Lufthansa Technik and its subsidiary Lufthansa Technik Maintenance International (LTMI) are teaming up to provide an even more comprehensive and cost effective service not only for Lufthansa German Airlines and bmi but also for present and future external line maintenance customers at London Heathrow airport. The capabilities comprise of line maintenance up to (and including) A-Checks for narrow- and wide-body aircraft. This partnership will be promoted under the newly developed brand "bmi, partner of Lufthansa Technik".
