August 1, 2011, Portland, OR – Flightcom today announced the release of its new wireless ground support systems for team communication in commercial aviation. Flightcom’s wireless ground support system is designed for use during aircraft ground pushback, marshalling and de-icing operations. Flightcom is a leader in innovative team communication solutions for aviation environments, including products like its aviation headsets.

“Continuous hands-free communication during aircraft movement, such as gate push-back, improves safety and operational efficiency, while also addressing the urgent need to reduce ramp accidents that, by some estimates, cost airlines as much as $10 billion per year,” Executive Vice President Reed Stager said.

The hands-free wireless aircraft marshalling system continuously connects one or more wing walkers with the tug operator during aircraft movement, allowing the operator to concentrate on correct and efficient maneuvering, while ensuring instant communication in the case of danger or a change in movement. The tug operator wirelessly communicates with the aircraft pilot through a portable system, which also permits all team members to hear the pilot.

The hands-free system for de-icing operations ensures continuous communication between the spray operator and the truck driver, as well as radio communication with operations dispatch or other crews, while allowing the spray operator freedom of movement to focus only on de-icing tasks. The system can be configured to support additional communication via standard mobile radio and can be further extended to support multiple de-icing crews working on the same aircraft. In all configurations, equipment movement can be constantly coordinated, which ensures the safety of ground personnel and aircraft while optimizing efficiency. In addition, all wireless headsets offer 24 to 26db of hearing protection to prevent hearing damage on the flight line.

Flightcom’s wireless ground support systems are available immediately and Flightcom can be reached at 800-432-4342.
