Lufthansa to add 90 jobs at Tulsa facility over next few years

Aug. 02-- Lufthansa Technik Component Services, the Tulsa commercial aircraft repair company, will more than double employment, to 170 people, in the next few years, company executives said Wednesday.

"Since 2008, we have gone from 28 employees to 80," said Thomas Stueger, CEO of product and services for Lufthansa Technik Group. "But this is not the end. This is the beginning. ... We have the right staff, the right mixture, the right facilities. Everything -- all the ingredients -- are here.

"With our expanded service offer in the center of one of the world's most important aviation markets, we can meet the needs of our customers on site in the Americas even better. For this reason, we definitely see potential for a further expansion of our service portfolio for the American market at this successful location."

Lufthansa's facility at the northwest corner of Tulsa International Airport offers complete repairs for commercial aircraft components, including hydraulics, pneumatics and avionics, emergency, and galley equipment.

Lufthansa Technik Component Services, a subsidiary of Lufthansa Technik Group, was founded in 1999 and has warehouses in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; San Francisco; and New York, from which it ships commercial aircraft components around the clock, company executives said.

Michael Scheferhoff, president and CEO of Lufthansa Technik Component Services, said rising demand for the company's services promises a bright future.

"Thanks to the outstanding support and close cooperation we enjoy with Component Services from Lufthansa Technik Group, we have a very broad product portfolio at our disposal and logistics services that span the whole world," Scheferhoff said.

Lufthansa Technik Group, founded in 1995, began as a maintenance, repair and overhaul provider for Lufthansa German Airlines, Germany's national airline. Today, Lufthansa Technik Group has 28 MRO facilities around the world, 25,000 employees and annual revenue of $6.1 billion, Stueger said.

"Its sister company, Bizjet, is right across the apron," Stueger said. "There are 370 people employed at Bizjet. We couldn't have believed that three years ago."

Mayor Dewey Bartlett said it was a good day for Tulsa and northeastern Oklahoma.

"Three years ago, when I became mayor, Lufthansa employed 20 people," Bartlett said. "Now, it is approaching 100 and they are expanding more.

"Each and every city in northeastern Oklahoma benefits from the commitment Lufthansa has made in Tulsa. More than 13,000 people are employed at this airport.

"Can you imagine what the effects will be at this airport in five years when Lufthansa is growing even more?
