Jetstar Japan starts operations
Jetstar Japan, a new low-cost subsidiary of Qantas Group, declared that it has started operations, joining four other Jetstar-branded airlines in Singapore, Vietnam, Australia and New Zealand.
The carrier stated that Flight GK111, an Airbus A320 with 180 passengers, departed Tokyo Narita for the regional center of Sapporo. QF Group CEO Alan Joyce said, With Jetstar we have developed a highly efficient, low-cost carrier model that enables us to stimulate new demand by making air travel more affordable. We re pleased to be starting services five months ahead of schedule and less than 12 months after the airline was first announced, made possible with support from our partners Japan Airlines, Mitsubishi Corp. and Century Tokyo Leasing. It has sold well over 100,000 fares since April. The hope is that cheaper prices and strong brand recognition will support the new carrier in an already competitive LCC market, said Jetstar Japan. After receiving regulatory approval, the sixth Jetstar brand carrier, Jetstar Hong Kong will be introduced in 2013.
