Dubai Airports, home to the biggest Arab airline Emirates, is seeking to reach a record 50 million passenger traffic this year as the Arabian Gulf business hub benefits from tourism amid unrest in some parts of the Middle East.

Passenger traffic in November rose 8.9 per cent to 4.43 million from 4.07 million in the year-earlier period, the state- run facility said in an e-mailed statement today. Air freight volumes dropped 0.4 per cent to 191,658 tonnes in November. "Considering that we have had an average monthly traffic of 4.2 million passengers in the first eleven months of 2011, we are well on track to surpass the historical figure of 50 million in annual traffic this year," said Jamal Al Hai, executive senior vice president, international affairs and communications at Dubai Airports.
