New art exhibit opens in ONT terminals
Los Angeles World Airports, in partnership with the city of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, announces a new exhibition "Traverse," by Meeson Pae Yang, which simulates a dense forest through the use of synthetic materials.
The art installation is on display at LA/Ontario International Airport in Terminals 2 and 4 until March 25.
Hand-painted sheets of translucent Mylar are shaped to resemble birch trees with delicate branches and tiny leaves, which Yang mounted and suspended inside contiguous display cases, creating a quiet, wintry landscape.
Like a painted landscape, the clusters of trees offer a dreamy interpretation of nature.
"My art installations act as otherworldly ecosystems integrated into urban architecture. They combine the real and the fantastical to re-envision a poetic environment," Los Angeles-based artist, Yang explains.
The purpose of the Airport Arts Exhibition Program at LAX and ONT is to educate and entertain the traveling public, while emphasizing a cultural experience highlighting what makes the Los Angeles area memorable and interesting.
Exhibits may be historic, popular, artistic, or graphic design in nature and may arise from museums, fine art, archives, environment, or other fields.
Exhibits are on display in Terminals 2 and 4 at ONT, and Terminals 1, 2, 3, and Tom Bradley International Terminal at LAX.
