Ghana's government plans to build a new, ultra-modern airport in Tamale, 658 km north of the capital of Accra, Africa Review reported. The country's Transport Ministry is in the process of finalising financial arrangements for the design and construction process, according to Transport Minister Collins Dauda. Ghana currently has only one international airport at the heart of its capital. The new airport, targeted to serve as an alternative facility to the Accra airport, will be built through expansion and upgrade of the existing small domestic airport in Tamale. The new airport will also operate as a hub for sub-regional flights. Ghana has two other small airports in Kumasi and Sunyani, 221km and 400km north of Accra, respectively. These two airports will undergo rehabilitation of their runways for some GHS 10mn (EUR 4.7mn) next year.
