Airport, business leaders want Warwick council to drop fight against runway

Dec. 13--WARWICK, R.I. -- State business leaders, the Rhode Island Airport Corporation, and building industry officials are trying to persuade the Warwick City Council to stop a federal court appeal that is stalling a runway extension and other improvements at T.F. Green Airport.

Representatives of the various interests said they would be at Monday night's council meeting to let the board know that it is in the state's best interest that the airport project moves ahead as quickly as possible.

Laurie White, executive director of the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce, said that the airport's success is critical to the state's economy and the Chamber hopes to persuade the council to drop its appeal of the Federal Aviation Administration's recent approval of the airport improvement project.
