Bulgaria's Burgas airport passenger traffic triples y/y in Nov 2011.
The number of passengers serviced by the airport in Bulgaria's Black Sea city of Burgas surged by 228.3% on the year to 20,449 in November, data from the concessionaire, Fraport Group, showed. The number of passengers at the Burgas airport went up by 18.1% on the year in the first eleven months of 2011. Fraport Twin Star Airport Management, a 60/40 joint company of Germany's Fraport and local BM Star, operates Bulgaria's two Black Sea airports in Varna and Burgas under a 35-year concession contract signed in 2006. Fraport started BGN 40mn (EUR 20.5mn) revamp of the runway at the Varna airport in mid-October. The airport will remain closed until the end of February 2012 as all passenger traffic has been transferred to the Burgas airport.
