The Australian Tourism Export Council issued the following news release:
ATEC today welcomed the announcement by Sydney Airport that it plans to integrate international, domestic and regional services under the one roof, creating a more expedient and cohesive experience for visitors.
Managing Director, Felicia Mariani, said the airport plan is a valuable improvement on key tourism infrastructure for both NSW and Australia.
"This proposal will greatly increase Sydney Airport's capacity and visitor experience which, as Australia's major aviation gateway, is crucial to our ability to take full advantage of future tourism growth," Ms Mariani said.
"ATEC welcomes the plan, which will improve passenger connect times, increase efficiency and invest in more ground transport facilities."
Ms Mariani said a key ATEC platform was to improve and grow regional tourism dispersal of international visitors and the planned Sydney Airport facility would work to facilitate this outcome.
"In order to engage our full potential as an international destination, Australia must encourage visitors to travel beyond our capital cities and bringing domestic services under the same roof as international air services is a strong start.
"As our main aviation entry point, Sydney Airport is showing leadership and vision in proposing a fully integrated, visitor focused facility that also supports the goals of the tourism industry and its 2020 Tourism Industry Potential.
"ATEC looks forward to engaging in the stakeholder consultation process and working with Sydney Airport to maximise the opportunities for the tourism industry."
