Southwest Airlines Co's wholly owned subsidiary AirTran Airways has stated to its employees that it will be terminating its services from five airports, including Charleston's Yeager Airport in June 2012.

AirTran stated that at present operates non-stop flights three times a week between Charleston and Orlando, Florida. It can no longer support service to these particular markets in light of the realities of the challenging economic environment and sustained high fuel prices, said AirTran Airways. Southwest has an agreement with its employees not to outsource any work. At Yeager, AirTran outsources its gate and ground-handling work to CRW Services, said Yeager director Rick Atkinson, Since that's no longer an option, it doesn't make sense for the airline to pay full-time employees to work at Yeager three days a week.
