Cabs seek minimum fare at Hope airport
For now, travelers who use Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, Calif., can still save money by parking just outside the airport and catching a short taxi ride into the terminal.
The demand for short rides into and out of the airport has grown so much that taxi drivers have asked Burbank city officials to impose a minimum fare of $15.50 for anyone taking a taxi from the airport. Taxicab companies began complaining recently that they were losing money on the short rides they give passengers who park in nearby retail parking lots or on city streets. Parking at the airport costs $10 to $31 per day. City officials said they expect the council to take up the matter in November or December.
