Gary airport authority approves agreement with CSX to construct haul road

An agreement was approved by the Gary/Chicago International Airport authority with railroad CSX Corp. to build a haul road to a key railroad intersection.

Airport Director Steve Landry said that under the deal, the authority will get right of entry to bring heavy equipment within 50 feet of CSX tracks so new bridges can be built to carry Canadian National Railway Co. tracks over Norfolk Southern Corp. tracks north of the airport. In order to allow the shift of Canadian National tracks westward to Cline Avenue, the three railroads are involved in moves. Several other contracts related to the expansion project were also approved by the airport authority. These contracts include a liability insurance policy to cover its construction work around the three railroads.
