US Airways filled a record 83.6 percent of its passenger seats in September, compared with 82.1 percent the year earlier, the carrier said on Wednesday.

About 4.1 million passengers boarded its flights last month, or 2.2 percent fewer than the nearly 4.2 million the airline served the year earlier.

But a high percentage of its seats were filled in the current year because US Airways downsized capacity over those 12 months by 2.7 percent.
